Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater Vilar Pavilion
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Client: Vail Valley Foundation
Completion: 2004

The Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater Vilar Pavilion underwent a $9 million facelift in 2001. The open-air Amphitheater seats 2,500 and is the cultural focal point for Vail Valley during the summer months. Veneklasen Associates was brought in to improve the quality of the Amphitheater's natural acoustic experience, specifically addressing the traffic noise impact from both busy Interstate 70 and Vail Valley Drive, and review their audio system configuration, which required corrections to support quality amplified performances.

Veneklasen Associates opted to keep the interior of the Amphitheater intact, in order to avoid risk to the structure within the amphitheater specially created to enhance acoustic performances. Various barrier options were established instead to block traffic noise at the amphitheater's property line.
