CalPERS Headquarters Expansion VA Scope: Acoustical Consultation and Audio-Visual Design  Location: Sacramento, California Design Team: Pickard Chilton, Kendall/Heaton Associates Completion: 2005 Cost: $250 million Occupying two full city blocks, this complex is both a corporate symbol and an enhancement to the downtown Sacramento civic district. Demonstrating a new standard of environmental sustainability for a large-scale headquarters building, the set of buildings achieved a LEED Silver rating. Use of strategically-placed courtyards and terraces allow for daylighting, façade shading projects, operable windows, and a landscaped roof are just some of the green design features. The vast 550,000 program consists of office space including training rooms, conference and multi-purpose rooms with requirements that included video-conferencing and distance learning systems. Veneklasen Associates also designed a lobby Theater Kiosk and Tribute Display. This specialized exhibit feature relies on a central server with digital content that can be updated simply, along with a series of plasma displays that can be operated by visitors individually. |
