Maricopa County Juvenile Courts and Detention Facility
VA Scope: Acoustical Consultation and Audio-Visual Design

Location:
Phoenix, AZ
Design Team:
Cannon Design
Completion:
2003
Cost: $38 million
A new 263,000 square foot courthouse and expanded detention center with high-tech courtrooms and a state-of-the-art facility better suited to meet the needs of Maricopa County's children and families. The $38 million construction project included 12 courtrooms and 220 additional detention beds, which is significantly larger than the original facility. The courthouse includes offices for Court Administration, Juvenile Probation Court Services, Court Appointed Special Advocate, the Clerk of the Court, the Public Defender, the County Attorney, and Court Security.
VA served as the acoustical consultant and audio-visual designers for two new detention and court facilities at Durango and Mesa. Key concerns were sound isolation, shaping and surface treatment in the courthouse portions of the project, reverberation control for the dayrooms and HVAC noise and vibration control project-wide.
